Football - 27th August 2011 - RESULTS

Well, One of the bets that is interesting me is the over 0.5 goals that is on Betfair forum. This is where the guys are picking games that do not finish 0-0 (goalless). The only annoying thing about this is the odds are around 1.08
which means that a £100 bet only get you £8.00 which is really poor considering one 0-0 game loses £100.

Aston Villa v Wolves 0-0
over 2.5 goals (second half either no goals or 2+ goals)
LOST
over 1.5 goals in first half LOST

Wigan v QPR 2-0

Carling Cup 24/08/11

Well, I did poorly on the Carling Cup last night. I had Crystal Palace And Swansea to win at HT and FT, and both did neither.
But I did do a bet at half-time on Bayern to stay at under 1.5 goals (with the score at 0-1) and that was at 9.6; but I did concede and bet for over 1.5 goals so only won about £11 (although I would have won £11 if another goal was scored so played safe - otherwise I would have won £23), but that cancelled my two £5 bet earlier.

Taken from SkyBet website

Right now, my bet to make is Peterboro v Middlesbro (but I have a soft spot for Middlesbro) so I want them to win, so debating whether to bet, and curse my team or not... And with the way they have both been playing it is expecting goals.

So I am going to bet on the Liverpool game to be under 2.5 goals, and 0-0 for half-time. Highly unlikely but good odds to take the risk that Exeter will be able to hold them until half-time.

The Udinese v Arsenal game is also interesting. Arsenal are not favourite to win and are at 13/8. And considering they do not need to win, then they could play for the draw, however Arsenal are a team that cannot do this, but they are a bit more lucky in Europe, so an early goal is quite reasonable, but an upset is something that could also happen... I am at a crossroad on this game, and Arsenal are not yet firing on all cylinders.
With Nasri and Fabregas leaving, they may now be more stable as they were always in a constant state of when will they leave... Now they are both gone, Arsenal may now be able to get their team in order, and move on with the current crop. And they do have a good team, they just do not know how to close games and keep trying to score the perfect goal.
Go for a draw, and lay it later in the match..

Football - 20th August 2011 Result

Only three games out of ten had one goal or less, so the bet of over 1.5 goals is pretty good, but poor odds.
I am still trying to figure whether this is a good long-term strategy or not.

Only 4 out of 10 involved more than 2.5 goals, so the Premiership has not hit their high-scoring round, with the three teams coming up last year (QPR, Norwich and Swansea) involved in low-scoring games. Normally I would expect them to have a high-scoring games, but they are still finding their feet so betting on them to have under 1.5 goals may be worth a bet.

If you can pick a game that will have 2 goals then you should win on the majority of games, if you pick wisely.

Also, another interesting bet that I am now looking at is the most goals - 1st half, 2nd half or a tie.
And the most goals in first half and tie is around 3.5, with 2nd half being the favourite.

Football - 20th August 2011

Second week, and it has been interesting.
6 out of ten games have ended with 2 or more goals, which means that with the odds being 3-1 for under 1.5 goals, then it will be a good wager

Odds taken from Betfair

I have decided not to bet on the under/overs right now, and just see what is the best to bet on. Go for unders 1.5 goals and, then wait til half-time hoping no goals are scored, and go for overs, to be safe.

Football - 14th August 2011 Result

Well, I thought Chelsea would at least score...

WBA v Man Utd was the game to score 2 or more goals. Oh well, win some and you lose some. I am glad Cardiff won today though, so not all bad really.

Football - 14th August 2011

Well only two games playing today, and surprisingly Chelsea are at 2.02 (Betfair) to win away, so a good bet to place, but Stoke have been impressive so may upset Chelsea.

Odds taken from Bet fair website

For the Stoke v Chelsea game the odds at 1.41 for 2 goals or more is rather tempting, so will bet on this one, but it is too low for the WBA v Man Utd game, so depending on if I win, I may just ignore this one. Or wait ten minutes into the game so the odds will increase if no goals are scored.

Weekend 13th August 2011 - Result

Well, what a rather low scoring day.

I managed to get the QPR v Bolton game right, but lost on the Newcastle v Arsenal game. 2 out of the 6 games scored under 1.5 goals, so I had a good chance of getting the right result.

Weekend 13th August 2011

Well the first game of the Premiership is almost ready to begin

Odds taken from Betfair.com

I will hopefully provide the odds for over 1.5 and 2.5 goals for the Premiership games, as I am curious whether goals is a more predictable game to bet on. You are only going for the number of goals rather than predicting who will win, lose, or even draw - that is three outcomes that could happen.
In goals, you have either over 1.5, or under 1.5, so you have two outcomes.

Wigan v Norwich and Newcastle v Arsenal are ones I am thinking of betting on the over 1.5 goals.

Low odds, you say, well the reason why I am trying this out is because on the Betfair forum, they have a tip on betting for 1 goal or more, and starting with £100, but for me the odds are to low to play that, but with 2 goals or more, the odds are more interesting and you just need to win 4 games to recover your starting bet. It may be more risky if you lose, as you have a higher chance of losing. But this is my experiment, and I had £15 free bet from SkyBet, so will use that bonus to play with and see how far I get with this.

Sat 6th August

Football season begins, although it is the lower league and the Premiership will start next weekend.

I haven't really been able to analyse results as any team can win, and I am not that aware of how strong the teams that came up - QPR, Norwich and Swansea will fare.

Well I did a few bets yesterday, as I had an email from SkyBet that offered me a £5 free bet if I deposited £5 into my SkyBet account this weekend, so I did it, and when I went into the section where I could put the code in, I noticed that there was another offer - Deposit £5 and they will give you £10. Cool.

So, I put that code in as well. Deposited £5, and my balance went to £20! Result.

I normally start off pretty well in the first few weeks, even though the form is completely unsettled. So, it took me a while to pick my teams to win, as I had to bet the bonus money within a week.

So, my two £5 bets were Ipswich and Middlesbrough to win as single bets.

Half-time both were winning 1-0, so was debating whether to do a lay bet on Betfair (ie. bet that they do not win), only to be waiting too long that the betting was suspended and that Portsmouth had levelled early in the second half! No. I was too late, but still had Ipswich winning away, and then the unfortunate happened. The Ipswich game suspended, I held my breath to wait the score (I was not listening to the game, so was only paying attention to the Betfair live screen) and it went to 1-1! In a matter of minutes I was losing my two bets.
But, then when I looked, it went back to 1-0 Ipswich. I was confused, but glad, so put the radio on to listen to the games.
Well, I was still debating about whether to lay a bet against Ipswich, but then they scored a second goal, so I was safe with them, and also Middlesbrough scored a second in the 54th minute, so I was again winning with both.
So, I decided to not risk it, and did a lay bet that Middlesbrough would not win. If they win, I win £5 with Skybet, and lose £2 with Betfair, but if Boro do not win, then I lose £5 with SkyBet and win £6.70 with Betfair. Not much really, but I did hope that Boro will win... Nope, in the 90th minute, Portsmouth gets an equaliser and it ends 2-2

I did okay that day, had £15 from SkyBet for depositing £5, and won with Ipswich at 15/8. Although I lost with Middlesbrough, I bet that they would win and not win, so only won a small amount with that one, but did not lose the £5 bet anyway.

Hopefully, I will continue winning.

Premiership Relegation odds

Well, the football is almost upon us for the Premiership, and I have looked at the odds of the Premiership teams to be relegated

So Swansea, Norwich and QPR are favourite to go down. I am not sure whether they will all go down, but as always I believe two of the teams will outperform their status and win a few games and be in mid-table position until Christmas where either injury or suspension affect them, or the teams work out how to play against them, and they will begin to struggle in the second half of the season.

I do not have much knowledge on them to be able to guess which of the three is likely or unlikely to go down, but have added this so that midway in the season I can see how much the odds will change.
